Brynn Marr Hospital, a 102-bed behavioral health facility in Jacksonville, NC set out to bring the healing power of music through unique virtual performances tailored to patients overcoming a mental health crisis.
Jacksonville, NC – November 16, 2020 — Brynn Marr Hospital announces a new partnership with Musicians On Call (MOC), focusing on tailored performances for the child, adolescent, and adult populations we serve. Brynn Marr Hospital recognizes the significant challenges resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and strives to use an innovative approach to supporting and encouraging its community. Recent studies indicate that nearly 25% of Americans feel COVID-related stress, anxiety, and/or depression most or all of the time. The pandemic has illuminated the critical need to focus not only on our physical health, but our mental health. As Musicians On Call’s first behavioral health partner, Brynn Marr Hospital seeks to provide the healing power of music as a specialized complement to their treatment programs.
For over 20 years, Musicians On Call has brought the joy of live music to the bedsides of patients in healthcare facilities across the country. More than 875,000 patients, family members and caregivers have experienced the healing power of music through its programs. It has been demonstrated that music has a direct effect on people and can improve blood pressure, support stress management, alleviate pain, and improve overall outlook and mood. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, MOC expanded its Virtual Bedside Performance Program, serving the populations most in need at this time. Musicians On Call was recently recognized by Zoom as a top 15 organization innovatively using video conferencing technology, expanding access to patients in remote and rural areas.
“We are honored to partner with Musicians On Call, an organization truly dedicated to improving the lives of the patients we serve. I believe music has the power to heal, to restore, to energize and engage. The impact of the compounding crises affecting our nation this year has been significant to say the least. We are proud to launch this new and innovative program designed to enhance patient experience and the treatment we provide,” said Allison Davenport, CEO of Brynn Marr Hospital.
“Music has an undeniable power to bring a welcome sense of calm and relief to even the most stressful circumstances. We have seen it have incredible benefits on the physical and mental wellbeing of patients; it can cause pain levels to subside and lift spirits in an instant,” said Musicians On Call President and CEO Pete Griffin. “During a year when pain and stress has been at an all-time high, we are proud to be able to support healing with the patients at Brynn Marr Hospital.”
